    720 Dirck Jans Woertman, son of John WIlliam Workman, born about 1630 Amsterdam, Holland; imigrated to America in 1647 (the date fixed in 1687 when he took the oath of allegiance at Brooklyn and stated that he had been in the country 40
    years). Although known during this period simply as Dirck (Derick) Jans, in 1680 he resumed the surname of Woertman and was known by it from rhen on. Just where he lived from 1647 to 1661 is not certain, but on 10 April 1661 he and his wife
    MARRIETJE TEUNIS DENYSE ... were admitted to the Brooklyn Dutch Church. Just when the couple was married is not known, but it was probably in 1660. At this time and subsequently Dirck(Derick) owned property in Brooklyn and operated the
    Brooklyn Ferry. The sale of this property took place in 1687. Dirck was made a town officer in 1673 in Brooklyn.

    thought it would be better for him to go to the soldiers' home at Leavenworth. After going to the home he made business visits to Pawnee and only a short time ago was greeting his friends in the streets of our city.

    732 Frederick A. Thomas, reported 1949? that the little stone cottage where Peter and Sarah lived is still standing. THe property remained in the family until recent years, when it was sold to Charlton Yarnall, a wealthy man whose ancestor
    was a nex door neighbor to the original Peter Thomas. This was no doubt in Willistown township near the Deleware border.

    734 From an old record we learn that Charles Rhodes, the father of Esther, was, with another boy, kidnapped from England and impressed as a sailor, and while on the Jersey coast was fortunate enough to make his escape. His friends, learning
    of his whereabouts, supplied him with some goods to start a store. A chest in which some of the goods were sent to him, was in the Wintermute family for a long time, until the spring of 1890 when it was sold at vendue with other goods disposed
    of by David H. Wintermute, of Newton, and so passed out of the family. The chest had a drawer in one end and beneath that a secret compartment. Rhodes served as Surrogate of Sussex County for a long time.

    735 Funeral services were held in Pawnee City Thursday morning, August 24, under the direction of the grand Army of the Republic, of which he was a member. Rev. C.N. Dawson, pastor of the Methodist church, preached the sermon, and he was
    buried beside his sister in the Pawnee City cemetery.

    737 George and Minnie Goddard farmed in South Dakota for several years, moving to Esmond, South Dakota in 1925. Mr. Goddard managed a hardware store and lumber yard. In 1931 they moved to Pierson, Iowa and Mr. Goddard was manager of Joyce
    Lumber Co. Mr Goddard was public spirited, serving as treasurer to the W.P.A. when it was formed in 1934. He also served as president of the Community Club and as school board president in 1937 and 1940. During the time he served on the
    school board he was instrumental in bringing short hand, typing and bookkeeping to Pierson High School. The family was active in the Methodist Church and Sunday school. Mrs. Goddard belonged to the birthday club. The family moved to Three
