      • Jane/Jean Hankinson, matriarch
      • Jane/Jean Hankinson emigrated from England to Perth Amboy, NJ on March 3-31, 1683. She was indentured to Thomas Warne, one of the 24 proprietors of East New Jersey at that time. She brought with her three sons, Thomas (b. 1672), Richard (b.
        1674), and Peter (b. 1676).
      • Joseph, son of Thomas and grandson of Jane/Jean
      • Joseph Hankinson (son of Thomas) was born 3/27/1712 in Freehold, NJ, and died 9/12/1783 in Readington Township, Hunterdon County, NJ. Joseph married Rachel Mattison, daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth Mattison of Monmouth County. Rachel was
        born in 1707 and died 3/28/1784 in Readington Township. They are both buried in Voorhees Cemetery, Readington Township.

      • Thomas, son of Joseph and Rachel
      • Thomas married Jemima Stout, the daughter of James and Joanna (Johnson) Stout (Historical and Genealogical Miscellany, Stillwell). There is no date for Jemima's birth, but she died before Feb. 1794. Thomas died August 1786 in Amwell
        Township, Hunterdon County, NJ.

      • Aaron, son of Joseph and Rachel
      • Aaron married Mary Snyder of Kingwood Township., Hunterdon County on 2/9/1764 (NJ Colonial Documents). Mary, the daughter of Hendrick and Sarah (Lake) Snyder of Kingwood Township., was born 11/27/1747 and died 5/3/1796. Aaron died
        10/9/1806 near Stillwater, Sussex County, NJ. They are both buried in Yellow Frame Presbyterian Cemetery, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, NJ.
      • Aaron and Mary's children:
      • a) Capt. Joseph, b. circa 1763, d. in 1838 Capt. Joseph married Margaret Goble and had 7 children. They are buried in Marksboro Presbyterian Cemetery, Marksboro, Warren County, NJ.
      • b) Henry Hankinson, b. 8/27/1767, d. 5/5/1848. He married on 8/14/1800, Mary (Polly) McCullough, daughter of Col. William McCullough. They had three daughters, one of whom died in infancy. Mary died 10/6/1805. Henry and Mary are
        buried in Asbury M.E. Church Cemetery with their infant daughter.
      • c) Sarah, born 1770, died 2/10/1815. She married first David Linn and seond John Smalley (the latter on 6/10/1806).
      • Sarah and David's children:
      • 1) Aaron, married Eliza Hankinson, daughter of James.
      • d) John, b. 11/25/1771, died 8/3/1845. He married Elizabeth Hunt. They are buried in Yellow Frame. They had 5 children.
      • e) Rachel, b. 1774, d. 1847. She married Sydney Herriott, and moved to western Pennsylvania in 1797.
      • f) Thomas, b. 12/20/1775, d. 4/27/1796 (buried in Yellow Frame).
      • g) William, b. 10/30/1779, d. 10/17/1830. He married on 3/14/1805 Margaret Crisman,
      • b. 12/10/1781 and died 2/26/1857. William was a prosperous merchant in Blairstown and
      • a justice of the peace.
      • h) Nancy, b. 1781, who married Aaron Southard on 1/6/1799.
      • i) Daniel Thatcher, b. 1781, d. 1840's, a bachelor.
      • j) Elizabeth, b. 1783, d. 1834. She married Nathan Armstrong on 1/18/1807. He was the son of George and Sarah (Hunt) Armstrong.
      • k) Hannah, b. 1784, d. 1842, married Henry Cooper Kelsey on 5/14/1808. Elizabeth and Nathan had a number of children.
      • l) Aaron Jr., b. 4/22/1786, d. 2/23/1850. He married Sarah Kelsey on 4/12/1804 and moved to Wyoming County. Sarah was born 3/7/1785. Possibly a sister to Henry Cooper Kelsey.
      • m) Samuel K., b. 1/30/1792, d. 4/21/1793.
      • William, son of Joseph and Rachel
      • William Hankinson married Susannah DeWitt, b. 1735, d. 5/12/1798. William died 4/26/1796 and both are buried in Yellow Frame Cemetery. They possibly lived on what is now Kohlbocher Road in Stillwater Township, on the east bank of the Paulins
        Kill River.
      • William and Susannah's children:
      • a) Joseph b. 4/2/1762;
      • b) James, b. 4/2/1762 (twin to Joseph). He married Elizabeth Hazen circa 1785. She was born 6/11/1765 and died 5/18/1813/18. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Giles) Hazen. They had 8 children. James's second wife was
        Mrs. Joanna Shay; they married on 8/24/1819. James and Joanna had 2 children.
      • c) Rachel, b. 1765/6 who married Joseph Huff and had 12 children;
      • 4) Elizabeth, b. circa 1768 and married Isaac Van Neste;
      • d) John, b. 5/25/1771 and married on 4/13/1797 Elizabeth Wintermute (have a lot of material on this family from a book on the Wintermute Family);
      • e) Ann, b. circa 1773/6;
      • f) Mary (Polly) b. circa 1779. She married 6/6/1797, Levi Rosenkranz and had 4 children; her second husband was Cyrus Egbbert.
      • *George Watson Roy also mentions an Aaron born to William and Susannah. Aaron was not mentioned in William's will and it is thought, by one Hankinson genealogist, that William and Susannah did not have a son Aaron.
      • Nancy Ann, daughter of Joseph and Rachel
      • Nancy Ann Hankinson married a Van Buscark/Buskirk. Nancy Ann died before 1783.
      • Nancy and Van Buscark/Buskirk's children:
      • 1) Lydia;
      • 2) Aaron.
      • John, son of Joseph and Rachel
      • John was unmarried. He died 5/20/1823 and is buried in Voorhees Cemetery, Readington Township. He left much of his estate to his nieces and nephews, three of whom were named after him.
      • Joseph Jr., son of Joseph and Rachel
      • Joseph Jr. married on 4/3/1770 Hannah Atkinson, b. 6/20/1748, d. 2/7/1833. Both are buried in Voorhees Cemetery. Joseph was an assemblyman and a County Freeholder (circa 1797).
      • Joseph Jr. and Hannah's children:
      • a) Nancy, b. 11/3/1770, d. 1815, who married Jacob Coryell;
      • b) Thomas, b. 4/14/1773, d. 5/7/1833, who married Hannah Hoagland, b. 3/20/1773, d. 5/4/1833. They had 4 children. Have a lot of information on their family which will be written at a later date.
      • c) Joseph, b. 11/2/1778, d. 8/10/1800, buried in Flemington Presbyterian Churchyard. He was single.
      • Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph and Rachel
      • Elizabeth married John Reading, b. 1751, d. 11/30/1820. They lived in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, NJ. She died 6/19/1817. They are buriedIn the Pleasant Ridge cemetery near Ringoes, NJ.

      • a) Mary, b. 1772, d. 5/4/1825 (single);
      • b) William, b. 1773, d. 12/10/1793 (single);
      • c) John, b. 1775, d. 5/9/1821 (single)
      • d) Ann, b. 1/29/1777, d. 4/17/1861 (single);
      • e) Joseph, b. 8/12/1778, d. 10/2/1853. He married on 11/6/1804 Eleanor Grandin, b. 9/15/1786, the daughter of Dr. John Grandin of Hamden, Hunterdon County, NJ. She died 12/2/1873 and both are buried in Flemington Presbyterian
        Churchyard.
