6. | Rebecca Elizabeth (Lizzie) PUCKETT (1.Rebecca1) was born on 30 Jun 1871 in Iowa; died on 27 Mar 1960; was buried in Bartley Cemetery, Red Willow County, Nebraska. Notes:
Lizzie Puckett's second husband was Herbert McElroy. She also
raised Leta who was Herbert's brother's granddaughter.
Lizzie had a small general merchantile store (candy, clothing, cloth, etc.) in Bartley. Herbert had a cobbler shop on the back of the property. Lizzie, Herbert and Leta lived at the back of the Merchantile store.
Lizzie was very active in the Methodist Church. She was Dad's (Rex Lewis) sunday school teacher when he lived in Bartley with his dad and he still has the small bible she gave him.
Lizzie and Herbert moved to Lincoln and the Wolfe's lost touch with Leta until Leta got back in touch with Mildred and Ina in 1995.
My father, Rex Lewis, remembers Lizzie from when she was his Sunday School teacher. He is 85 and still has the little New Testament that she gave him. She must have made a big impression on him since he has been agnostic for at least the last 40 years. - Rebecca Lewis

7. | John Campbell PUCKETT (1.Rebecca1) was born on Sept 21, 1873 in Pleasantville, Marion Co., Iowa; died on 18 Feb 1962 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Notes:
John Puckett's second wife Carrie raised his children after Adah died. Mom (Ina Wolfe ) thinks there were four boys in all.
According to Aunt Mildred Wolfe, I remember good stories about Uncle John's skill in psyching out a bargin and making money. 1) He went to visit Leonidas in San Francisco once for about a month. Couldn't find an apartment to rent so bought a house. Sold it a month or so later at a very nice profit. 2) One night after midnight someone came ringing his bell(in Lincoln). It was a farmer with a load of watermellons. He'd tried all day to sell them to some grocery and had to get going.
He knew Uncle John so came to him. Uncle John bought them and sold them the next day at a roadside stand-at a nice profit again. 3) One day he was riding in a train (from Lincoln to Indianola or something). About Grand Island he looked out the
window and there dumped along the track was a woole pile of what looked like good lumber. He got off the train at Grand Island, found out that the lumber had been dumped after a wreck or something, bought it for a pittance, and trucked it off
somewhere and sold it - nice profit again! You can see that I was greatly impressed by "nice profit."
According to Uncle John Wolfe," Uncle John Puckett was a shrewed businessman but he knew his sons could not handle his estate so Dad (Asa Wolfe) did it. Uncle John was also the village water dowser. "
Mom (Ina Mae Wolfe) says that Uncle John was thrilled when I was named Rebecca. It was his mothers name and Aunt Carrie says that he walked around the house saying "Rebecca, Rebecca". Rebecca was his mother's name and even though my parents
didn't intentionally name me after her, Uncle John was very happy.
John married Adah Elizabeth Rankin on 04 Feb 1896 in Indianola, Nebraska. Adah (daughter of Abraham Rankin and Emily T. Vaughters) was born on 21 Mar 1872 in Jackson Co., Ohio; died on 29 Mar 1922 in Indianola, Nebraska; was buried in Indianola Cemetery. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Uncle John Wolfe remembers, " The nighe that brother Charlie died three times. His heart would speed up to a tremendous rate the heart and breathing stop. He had measles and whooping cough at the same time. He was one year old. Dad would just
not let him go. He put him in hot water, pummeled and spanked him and the heart would start again. The doctor would not come to see him, saying Dad was doing everything possible. He would not let Mother in the room. I kept the water hot. After
the third ressurection he told me to go to bed, that the crisis was past.
Asa married Alice Mae THOMAS on 30 Aug 1917 in Rev. Charles Gearheart, Congregational parsonage. Alice (daughter of Robert Hanson THOMAS and Kate DUNNING) was born on 6 Dec 1890 in Indianola, NE; died on 9 May 1975 in Billings, MT. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

10. | Floyd Arthur PUCKETT (3.Francis2, 1.Rebecca1) was born on 14 Jan 1901 in Washington state; died on 10 Feb 1976 in Orange County , California. Notes:
Not living with his parents in the 1930 census in Kuna, Ada, Idaho; but he would have been 30 years old by then
Probably the Floyd A. Puckett with social security # 548182418 in the California Death Index 1941997.
This is where I got his exact birth and death dates. It did list his birth place as Nebraska. He was raised in Nebraska, but according to the 1910 census he was born in Washington.
In the 1900 census he is listed as 4 months old, so either he was bornin 1899, or the census was taken a few months late.
|
13. | Gladys or Mary L. or Lurtie PUCKETT (3.Francis2, 1.Rebecca1) was born about 1906. Notes:
In the 1910 Indianola, Red Willow County census, Mary L. Puckett is listed as 4 years old. However, in the 1930 Kuna, Ada Co., Idaho census, Gladys is listed as 24 years old. The other children's names are consistant. Just this one is odd.
Also, in the Allenias Puckett family photo, grandpa Wolfe refers to one of the children as "Lurtie" - so her name may be "Mary L" after all.
This Child is Confusing!!!

14. | Charles Francis PUCKETT (3.Francis2, 1.Rebecca1) was born on 07 Jul 1909 in Nebraska; died on 07 Apr 1983 in Merced, California. Notes:

17. | Roy E. HAMILTON (4.Laura2, 1.Rebecca1) was born in Sep 1888 in Nebraska. Notes:
Roy Hamilton fought in WWI and bought back a French wife. They had one daughter who (according to Mom, Ina wolfe) handed down her very pretty clothes to the Wolfe girls. Mom remembers that the French wife seemed so very cultured to her.
Uncle John thought that it was his cousin Harvey Hamilton with the French wife, but thinks the daughter might have been a step-daughter. About the divorce, John says "she took the bleak Kansas plains as long as she could.

19. | Charles Earl HAMILTON (4.Laura2, 1.Rebecca1) was born in Nov 1991 in Colorado. Notes:

|
22. | Orrie William HAMILTON (5.Mary2, 1.Rebecca1) was born on 30 May 1891 in Colorado Springs, Colorado; died on 17 Dec 1985 in San Diego, CA. Notes:
Grandparents Wolfe and the three girls visited Orrie in So. Calif, probably San Diego, in the summer of 1942. Mom (Ina Wolfe) and Aunt Mildred Wolfe tell much the same story. According to Mildred," They had four children and his wife was very
nice. She thought we were very primitive -which was very true- but she was nice about how she suggested things. She gave me my first razor and suggested that I shave under my arms! Can you imagine a high school graduate not knowing people did
that. She also invited me to stay with them to go to University near there. Of course with out-of-state fees it was totally out of the question, but I always remembered her kindness.
Orrie married Louise Matilda EBELING on 12 Dec 1919. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
|
23. | Paul HAMILTON (5.Mary2, 1.Rebecca1) was born on 6 Jun 1897; died on 11 Aug 1897 in Bartley, Nebraska. Notes:
Paul died from an overdose of medicine by a doctor.
|
25. | Frank Garret RAWSON (6.Rebecca2, 1.Rebecca1) was born about 1897 in Nebraska; died in 1916; was buried in Bartley Cemetery, Bartley, Red Willow, NE. Notes:
According to Leta, Charlie and Lizzie adopted Frank at the age of two, after a fire left him and about seven siblings without a mother.
|
27. | Miles Jerold PUCKETT (7.John2, 1.Rebecca1) was born on 20 Feb 1900 in Indianola, Nebraska; died on 04 Jul 1970 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Notes:
According to Aunt Mildred Wolfe, " Miles married a Beulah somebody and they had two girls, Doris and Eleanor, one became a missionary.
I'm not sure about Nancy Pade's notes. Miles was either born in Indianola or in Crippe Creek, Colorado.
Miles married Bulah Ann Keithley on 16 Mar 1921 in Superior, Nebraska. Bulah was born on 21 Nov 1898 in Lincoln, Nebraska. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

29. | Leonidas Rankin PUCKETT (7.John2, 1.Rebecca1) was born in Oct 11, 1905 in Indianola, Nebraska; died on 04 Dec 1978 in San Francisco, CA; was buried in Indianola, Nebraska. Notes:
Leonaides was homosexual and had no children. Aunt Mildred says "in the days when that was a real no-no." He lived in San Francisco as an adult. He did marry as a young man, probably in Nebraska, but separated after a short marriage.
When mom and dad (Ina Mae Wolfe Lewis and Rex Owen Lewis) would go and see him in San Francisco he was probably a housewife. I wish I knew his spouse's name. He gave mom some cute shoes.
One of his brothers was a missionary in Africa for many years. When their kids were ready for college, they would go live with uncle Leonidas and his partner.
