- George and Minnie Goddard farmed in South Dakota for several years, moving to Esmond, South Dakota in 1925. Mr. Goddard managed a hardware store and lumber yard. In 1931 they moved to Pierson, Iowa and Mr. Goddard was manager of Joyce
Lumber Co. Mr Goddard was public spirited, serving as treasurer to the W.P.A. when it was formed in 1934. He also served as president of the Community Club and as school board president in 1937 and 1940. During the time he served on the
school board he was instrumental in bringing short hand, typing and bookkeeping to Pierson High School. The family was active in the Methodist Church and Sunday school. Mrs. Goddard belonged to the birthday club. The family moved to Three
Lakes, Wisconsin in 1942 and Mr. Goddard managed a lumber yard. From here they moved to Rhinelander, Wisconsin where he was once again employed at a lumber yard. (Prepared for the Pierson, Iowa Centennial History Book, October 1982 by Fran
