      Notes:

Leonaides was homosexual and had no children. Aunt Mildred says "in the days when that was a real no-no." He lived in San Francisco as an adult. He did marry as a young man, probably in Nebraska, but separated after a short marriage.

When mom and dad (Ina Mae Wolfe Lewis and Rex Owen Lewis) would go and see him in San Francisco he was probably a housewife. I wish I knew his spouse's name. He gave mom some cute shoes.

One of his brothers was a missionary in Africa for many years. When their kids were ready for college, they would go live with uncle Leonidas and his partner.

    1. 2.  John Campbell PUCKETT was born on Sept 21, 1873 in Pleasantville, Marion Co., Iowa (son of Allen N. PUCKETT and Rebecca COURTNEY); died on 18 Feb 1962 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

      Notes:

John Puckett's second wife Carrie raised his children after Adah died. Mom (Ina Wolfe ) thinks there were four boys in all.

According to Aunt Mildred Wolfe, I remember good stories about Uncle John's skill in psyching out a bargin and making money. 1) He went to visit Leonidas in San Francisco once for about a month. Couldn't find an apartment to rent so bought a house. Sold it a month or so later at a very nice profit. 2) One night after midnight someone came ringing his bell(in Lincoln). It was a farmer with a load of watermellons. He'd tried all day to sell them to some grocery and had to get going.
He knew Uncle John so came to him. Uncle John bought them and sold them the next day at a roadside stand-at a nice profit again. 3) One day he was riding in a train (from Lincoln to Indianola or something). About Grand Island he looked out the
window and there dumped along the track was a woole pile of what looked like good lumber. He got off the train at Grand Island, found out that the lumber had been dumped after a wreck or something, bought it for a pittance, and trucked it off
somewhere and sold it - nice profit again! You can see that I was greatly impressed by "nice profit."

According to Uncle John Wolfe," Uncle John Puckett was a shrewed businessman but he knew his sons could not handle his estate so Dad (Asa Wolfe) did it. Uncle John was also the village water dowser. "

Mom (Ina Mae Wolfe) says that Uncle John was thrilled when I was named Rebecca. It was his mothers name and Aunt Carrie says that he walked around the house saying "Rebecca, Rebecca". Rebecca was his mother's name and even though my parents
didn't intentionally name me after her, Uncle John was very happy.

John married Adah Elizabeth Rankin on 04 Feb 1896 in Indianola, Nebraska. Adah (daughter of Abraham Rankin and Emily T. Vaughters) was born on 21 Mar 1872 in Jackson Co., Ohio; died on 29 Mar 1922 in Indianola, Nebraska; was buried in Indianola Cemetery. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    2. 3.  Adah Elizabeth Rankin was born on 21 Mar 1872 in Jackson Co., Ohio (daughter of Abraham Rankin and Emily T. Vaughters); died on 29 Mar 1922 in Indianola, Nebraska; was buried in Indianola Cemetery.

      Notes:

Information on this family is from Nancy Pade.

    1. 4.  Allen N. PUCKETT was born on 19 Feb 1833 in Bell, Ohio (son of Johnathan C. Puckett and Anna Campbell); died on 22 Aug 1921; was buried in Indianola Cemetery.

      Notes:

His name is listed as Alleniah A. Puckett on his son Jon's death certificate. Grandpa Asa Wolfe wrote it down as Allenias on the family photo. I have also seen people writing it as Allen N or Allen Nias.

On his homestead application in 1893, he wrote that he was 60 years old and wrote his name as Allen N Puckett.

According to Ina Wolfe, Allen Puckett was ostracized by his family after he chose to not become a priest.

According to Uncle John Wolfe,"I remember Dad (Asa Wolfe) telling about his granddad Puckett being a healer. He said he saw a man being carried into the Puckett parlor on a stretcher, and he walked out carrying the stretcher. He told
severalother stories in the same frame but not so vivid. There were secret words to transfer the healing power, to the eldest son of the eldest son. Every other generation skipped. Dad was not eligible --not a Puckett.

Do you (Ina Wolfe) remember stories of Dad relating to healing? H seemed reluctant to talk about such because we Moderns did not accept it. We rejected the wisdom of the ancients."

In the 1860 census, Allen is living with his 52 year old mother. It looks like an older married brother is living next door and a Courtney family living two doors down in the next page of the census.

On his homesteading application in 1893 he wrote his name as Allen N Puckett.

Allen married Rebecca COURTNEY on 13 Dec 1863 in Marshall, Highland Co., Ohio. Rebecca was born on 28 Feb 1838 in Marshall, Highland County, Ohio; died on Nov 11, 1905; was buried in Indianola Cemetery. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
