Wayne Heinzman, age 86, of Phillips, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Golden Living Center-Park Place in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 21st at the Phillips United Methodist Church. Rev. Marta Wheeler will officiate. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
OBITUARY: S. WAYNE HEINZMAN
Scott Wayne Heinzman, the son of Scott Earl and Maude (Ellen) Heinzman, was born on the family farm in rural Phillips, Nebraska on October 10, 1923 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on January 17, 2010, at the age of 86.
He grew up in on the family farm and graduated from Phillips High School. On August 21, 1944, he was united in marriage to Joan Virginia Marlatt at Bellvue, Kansas.
Wayne went to work for his father at S.E. Heinzman & Sons in 1942. In 1953, the company was moved to Grand Island. The company evolved into Heinzman Engineering, Inc. The business was sold in 1987. After that, Wayne continued to farm and mow fairways at Indian Head Golf Course.
Wayne was a member of the Phillips United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge Keystone #62 A.F. & A.M., Grand Island Eagles, Grand Island Elks, the Platt-Duetsche, the N.R.A, Riverside County Club and Lochland Country Club. He loved to play golf and ride his motorcycles. Wayne made many trips up to Sturgis, South Dakota. Wayne was a pilot and loved to fly family and friends in his airplane. He was a faithful Husker fan to both the Basketball and Football teams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Lee Heinzman; two brothers, Dale and Warren Heinzman and two sisters, Doris Phillips and Beatrice Shomshor.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan Heinzman of Phillips; son, John (Isabelle) Heinzman of Phillips; daughter Pat Heinzman of Grand Island; 4 granddaughters, Gretchen Ellen Heinzman of Lincoln, Nicole Myers of York, Anna Christine (Brad) Hunter of Sanford, North Carolina and Tracy Lynn (Doug) Hill of Grand Island; 6 great-grandchildren, Damia Joan Hill, Nicholas Lyle Grubb, twins, Devon and Tristan Hill, Keenan Scott Myers and John Jackson Hunter and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Scott married Jo-an Virginia Marlatt on 21 Aug 1944 in Bellville, Kansas. Jo-an (daughter of Lloyd Frank Jason Marlatt and Anna Christine Sanders) was born on 27 Apr 1926 in rural Holyoke, Phillips County, Colorado. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
