    1. 4.  Isaac S. Smith was born on 14 Jul 1778 in Knowlton, Warren, NJ (son of Joshua Smith and Keshia); died on 29 Jun 1854 in Blairstown Township, Warren, NJ; was buried in Knowlton Presbyterian Churchyard.

      All sons were prosperous farmers and lived in the Township except Isaac F. who took over his father's mill property, also acres of land, later selling to Martin Painter and then locating in Kalamazoo, Michigan and buried there. The parents,
      also other sons, are buried in Knowlton Church Yard except Joshua who is in the Quaker Cemetery nearby. Sally Ann married Simeon Cooke of Marksboro where she was buried after living past 88 years; she was small, weighed only 84 pounds at time

      "Copied from notes of James Edgar Smith" - "Isaac Smith, Sr., a millwright, after marriage to Rachel Wintermute, settled in Blairstown Township, N.J., buying a farm, also erecting a grist mill, the little settlement being named Smith's Mills,
      later Painter's Mills, then Kalarama."

      "History of Sussex & Warren Counties" pub. 1881, compiled by James P. Snell, p. 640 - "Blairstown....The exact date of its settlement by civilized man will probably never be known, but there can be no doubt about its being among the earlier
      settlements within the limits of Warren County. The original name of the place, so far as we have been able to learn, was "Smith's Mills." Many years before the Revolutionary war a man of that familar name-Smith-had a large grist mill and a
      saw-mill on the grounds now belonging to Hon. John I. Blair." (Not this Isaac Smith) P. 653 - "The next grist-mill in this township was built by Isaac Smith in 1831-32, now owned by the heirs of Martin Painter, and know as 'Painter's Mills,"
      and located south of Walnut Valley Post Office."
