7. | Elizabeth Mains died on 1 Sep 1887. Notes:
Residence: From Stillwater, New Jersey
Elizabeth Maine was born June 6, 1798 in Mainestown, Stillwater NJ. She married before 1817 and died Sept. 1, 1817. Her parents were Jacob W. Maine born 1750 in Frankfurt, Germany and Elizabeth Emery born 1756 Stillwater, NJ. She died
4/9/1824 in Stillwater. The children of Jacob and Elizabeth were Peter (my ancestor), Abraham, Sophia, Christina Savacool, and Elizabeth.
Short version notes from Mary Margaret Bruning: "The Maine family origin was France, then Germany. Jaacob W. Maine, born 1750 near Frankfurt German, somewhere on the Rhine River. He came to America in 1780 with his brothers William, born
1753, and Frederick, born 1755. Frederick settled in German Flats, NJ, William in Virginia, later Ohio, and Jacob in Stillwater, New Jersey. There he purchased a 300 or 400 acre plantation, married Miss Middleworth, who died and left a
daughter, Mary Maine, who married John Ayers of Gree Township, New Jersey. Ayers died. Mary later
married Robert Reading of Hachet Town, NJ. The old plantation is still owned by descendants (don't know if the latter is still true.) Jacob Maine married 2nd Elizabeth Emery. (Wish I knew more about her) He died March
12, 1824 and is buried in a Stillwater churchyard. I believe it is Harmony"
The Maine family tree goes back to medieval times and is very interesting. There is a remote connection to the Prince of Monaco. The Floyd Maine document has a lot of early Stillwater (especially Harmony Church) history.
