Charles was asked by old Joe Scranton to come to the town of Scrantonand build coal brakers (these were the sorters and graders of coal). The family story is that he bought his way out of service during the civil war.
Charles married Elizabeth Hooly on 5 Nov 1861. Elizabeth was born on 6 Mar 1842 in New Jersey; died in 1939 in Scranton, Pennsylvania; was buried in Washburn St. Presbyterian Church, Scranton, Pennsylvania. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
