Ruzilla Read

Ruzilla appears on the 1850 Census of Knowlton Township, Warren county, New Jersey (page 442) in the household of her father. She is listed as age 23 and single. Ruzilla is not a member of Isaac Read's household in 1860. which implies that
she had married. She had not died, because she was still alive in 1877 when her mother died.

Ruzilla erected the tombstone on her parents grave, of the bottom on the monument is carved, presented by their daughter Ruzilla (Hanesburg, Warren County, NJ, Community cemetery).

Ruzilla READ was the great granddaughter (Ruzilla, Isaac III, John, Joseph) of Joseph READ (b c1733 d 18 April 1792 Knowlton Twp (Sussex, now Warren) NJ and Sarah SUTTON (b 20 Feb 1742/43 d 31 Aug 1792 Knowlton Twp, NJ) the daughter of
James SUTTON and Hannah Louise FREEMAN. I would be more than happy to share any information I have on the family if you would be interested. I would also appreciate knowing if you ever run across dear ol' Joseph, as we have been unable to
find anything of his origins!

Ruzilla married Charles Wintamute on 6 Aug 1855. Charles (son of George Wintermute and Magdalena (Lanah) Staley) was born on 20 Dec 1805; died in 1874 in Blairstown; was buried in Pleasant Valley. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

After Isaac Read III died , Catherine (Mattews) Read bought the family farm from the estate. The deed was executed on 1 April 1867 between the children of Catherine Read (and their spouses) viz.: John M. Read and Barbara, his wife; Charles
Smith and Elizabeth Ann, his wife; Caroline Shaw; Baltis Titman and Malinda, his wife; CHARLES WINTERMUTE and Ruzilla, his wife; Henry Angle and Margaret, his wife; William S. Luse and Hulda, his wife; George Puluz and Harriet, his wife; Isaac
F. Read and Margaret Ann, his wife; Marshall Reed and Rebecca, his wife, Marshal Beck and Catherine, his wife; and William Reed, all of Warren County, New Jersey of the first part and Catherine Read, the widow of Isaac Read III. Catherine paid
$11,984.94 for the 178 and 82/100 acre farm. The deed was recorded on 14 May 1867 in the Warren County Land Records, Liber 68, folio 265.
