Notes:

Robert moved about with his family from Ohio to California to Ohio to Tennessee (where he graduated from high scholl at the Baylor School, Chattanooga) and back to Ohio where he went to college (1917-1921) and medical school (1924-1928) at the
Ohio State University. He served on the faculties of Western Reserve University in Cleveland (1933-1939) and Washington University in St, Louis (1939-1954). In 1946 he became dean of the medical school of Washington University. In 1954 he
was appointed vice chancellor for the health professions, University of Pittsburgh, and in 1957 President of the Downstate Medical Center, State University of New York in Brooklyn and dean of the college of medicine.

Robert died of emphysema in 1972 in Brooklyn NY. After his death, Ruth came to live with her son Richard and his family in Pittsburgh, PA.

Robert married Ruth Miller on 15 Jun 1922 in Episcapal Cathedral Chapel, Columbus, Ohio. Ruth (daughter of John Israel Miller and Elta Werder) was born on 31 Oct 1898 in Van Wert County, Ohio; died on 24 Jul 1979 in Pittsburgh, PA; was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, Ohio. Notes:

Ruth lived in Van Wert County until her parents moved to Columbus in 1913 where she went to East High School and the Ohio State University, graduating in 1921 from the program in home economics with a Major in bacteriology, in the classes of
which she met her future husband.

Notes:

John was a school teacher in Van Wert County until 1906 when he was elected County Surveyor. In 1911 he became Superintendent of Public Works of the State of Ohio with his office in Columbus. In 1923 he returned to Van Wert and opened a law
office. A few years later he was elected County Attorney and in 1937 he was appointed Postmaster of Van Wert. He retired in 1952.

Following the death of Elta in 1935, John married Ellen Wallace Rowell. By a previous marriage (terminated by divorce) she had two sons, Joseph Rowell and Donald Rowell. There was no issue of her marriage to John.

John married Elta Werder on 31 Mar 1898 in Van Wert, Ohio. Elta (daughter of Jr. Henry Werder and Eliza Agnes Carson) was born on 26 Aug 1878 in Seneca County, Ohio; died on 1 Jul 1935 in Van Wert, Ohio; was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, Ohio. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Elta came as a child with her parents to Van Wert County for Seneca County in 1883.
