      Notes:

The research from Grandma Alice Mae Thomas Wolfe and Aunt Marjorie Wolfe Hansen says that Lucy's mother was from Ohio. However, in all of the census, Lucy gives her mother's birthplace as New York.

Her brothers, William Wallace and Lemuel (Lem lived near her in Richardson Co., Neb) gave their mother's birthplace as Ohio.

Another researcher along her brother Anson's line gives their mother's birthplace as Homer,Cortland,New York,USA 1785. This would make her considerably older than her husband Asa though.

      Notes:

      Obituary clipping, newspaper unknown:

Lemuel A. Wheeler was born in Clarksville, Ohio, in August, 1834, and died at the national soldier's home at Leavenworth Kas., August 20, 1922, at the age of 88 years. He went to Missouri in 1862 and from there to Richardson county,
Nebr., in 1863. He enlisted in the Second Nebraska regiment in 1863, and for many years was a member of John Ingham Post No. 95, G.A.R., of this city.

For many years he had his home in Pawnee City, where he and an unmarried sister, Betsy B. Wheeler, lived comfortably and happily until she died in February, 1921. After his sister's death Mr Wheeler's sight failed rapidly and his friends
thought it would be better for him to go to the soldiers' home at Leavenworth. After going to the home he made business visits to Pawnee and only a short time ago was greeting his friends in the streets of our city.

Mr. Wheeler was of a friendly and jovial disposition. Always ready with an interesting reply and witty repartee, he numbered his friends by the number of his acquaintances.

Funeral services were held in Pawnee City Thursday morning, August 24, under the direction of the grand Army of the Republic, of which he was a member. Rev. C.N. Dawson, pastor of the Methodist church, preached the sermon, and he was
buried beside his sister in the Pawnee City cemetery.

Relatives present at the funeral were John Dunning, a nephew, and his wife of Indianola, Nebr.

    4. 14.  Nettie DUNNING Descendancy chart to this point (8.Lucy2, 1.Asa1) died about 1934.

      Notes:

Nettie had a child (that was aborted) by her brother John. She was very sweet, but "not all there"

When her niece, Alice Thomas, found out about John molesting Nettie, she waited one night in Nettie's bed. When John came to the bed, Alice attacked him. According to Alice, the molestation stopped after that.

    5. 15.  Kate DUNNING Descendancy chart to this point (8.Lucy2, 1.Asa1) was born on 21 Jun 1857 in near Mound City, MO; died on 16 May 1931 in Indianola, NE.

      Notes:

According to Uncle John Wolfe, there were 10 or 12 Thomas graves of children in the cemetery at Indianola, Nebraska. He also says, Grandmother praticed abortion. When dying she asked Mother, "Do you think I will go to heaven? " This would be confirmed by the 1900 census where Kate said that she had 11 births, three living.

Ina Mae Wolfe remembers that when she was very young and the family went to Indianola for Grandma Kate Dunning Thomas's funeral, Ina broke out in a terrible rash. Grandpa Bob Thomas took her around the yard asking finding out exactly what
plants she had touched while she was out in the yard. It turned out that she had been bitten by bedbugs instead. Because of the rash, Ina was sent over to stay with Mary, the former foster child of Bob and Kate Thomas and so missed the
      funeral.

"My first view of Indianola was the 25th of April '78 (1878). It was a very nice looking clean, little place-- a store, drug store, court house, a small little school house, a hotel, and a small dwelling house or two. A buffalo cow laarriated
out east of the town some little ways was a novel one to us at least.

While the size of the town was not so ________ as we had grown up in Nebraska and had seen the small places grow along with us and sure Indianola had grown. New settlers coming in the fall and the coming of the railroad made things go fast but
we must remember the school, church and Sunday school was already well laid out and the people and children as well was glad to have those things that they were well attended by those in or living near here, I sometimes think better then than
now. The added thought is to think of so many of the glad hands extended to the new comers here who have gone to the last home. While gone they are not forgotten. Now looking at the churches and nice homes and trees you have to stop and think,
has all this been done since you first saw Indianola." Kate Dunning Thomas
