3. | Mahlon Strawn (1.Hirum1) was born in 1810 in Welland, Ontario, Canada; died in 1904 in Moberly, Randolf Co., Missouri. Notes:
Mahon Strawn, son of Hiram and Catherine Strawn married Polly but was divorced from her. They had one child who was born and died in infancy. He did not marry again. He went to live with his sister, Nancy in Niangua, Missouri. Supposedly Mahlon
and his younger brother were burned to death in a log cabin fire in 1900 but currently we are showing his brothers death date as 1906 which would make this impossible. The Winnebago County, Illinois History of 1877 lists Mahlon as a laborer. He
was a cooper by trade. Bert Limar Franklin, grandson of Nancy Strawn Franklin Watson says, the following came from Iowa to Niangua, Missouri, to get away from the cold winters in Iowa. They were Mr & Mrs Frank Watson (Nancy Strawn), Mr & Mrs
George Watson, Mr and Mrs Elijah Franklin and daughter, Hiram and Mahlon Strawn and William Wilson.
"Mahlon and Hiram slept in a log cabin in the backyard on this place where we lived."

8. | Nancy Strawn (1.Hirum1) was born on 7 Dec 1828 in Welland, Ontario, Canada; died in 1909 in Missouri. Notes:
Nancy Strawn, daughter of Hiram and Catherine Strawn. Nancy was considered the angel of the family of 17 children. She not only cared for her father but had two of her brothers, Hiram and Mahlon, until they died. Elijah, Her first husband, died
while in the Civil War. They first lived in Winnebago County, Illinois then moved to Northeastern Iowa. But they left Iowa and removed to Missouri to get away from cold winters. They resided 6 1/2 miles southeast of Niangua, Missouri. Nancy
Strawn (Grandmother Watson as her family knew her) as we knew her lost 4 of her 6 children by typhoid fever. Her grandson, Bert Franklin, who was living in Springfield, Missouri in 1956, says, "We have a small table made by James Strawn for his
mother, Catherine Winemute, dated 1840; also a kitchen table they had when they lived in Canada and a bedspread made by Nancy Strawn Franklin from wool she raised. It is blue and white. She did the spinning and weaving, gathered rye straw and
made hates for her family and did all the cooking. We have a pair of mittens she knit, black with a red star on the back. She also traveled many miles on horseback to wait on the sick. No wonder she was called the 'Angel of the Family'."

Alonzo Strawn, son of Hiram and Catherine Strawn. Alonzo was brought to Winnebago County, Illnois by his parents in 1833. He enlisted in the 55th Volunteer Infantry Regiment of Ilinois during the Civil War and was injured. Some of his ribs were
broken while unloading Army supplies. At his dicharge, he lived on a farm near Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois, then moved to Michigan awhite and then moved back to Illinois. He then moved to Iowa and than Missouri and then back to Iowa
and finally to California where he hoped to live near his son, Milo. He was afflicted with paralysis 5 years before his death. This story was related to J Donald Strawn in January of 1959 from the granddaughter of Alonza (Arlie Emma Strawn
Kemmerer) -
"I so well can remember my Grandfather Alonza. As the story goes, I was his pet. I can picture him yet in his paralized condition. He were kid gloves many years due to a eczema condition of hands, night & day. I stay'd with him so much as a
little girl and played his graphaphone for him, got his tobacco for him and listened to his stories. He was a Lion to some and a Lamb to others - as the old saying goes 'Roars like a Lion, Gentle as a Lamb'. My brother Theodore Alonzo, who
lives fifty-seven miles from me in Cedar Rapids, IA, was named by Grandfather Alonzo. He made a bargain with my mother to name him after Teddy Roosevelt which she didn't like. Alonzo said 'Well, she settled for a fancy reed baby carriage."

William Durne Milne (who married Jesse's sister, Eliza) and John McLeish had gone to the same school. So William brought John with him when he came to visit his Uncle at Christmas time. His Uncle lived across the street from the McWilliams.
This is how Eliza met William and her sister, Jesse, met John McLeish. Jesse and John were married that same year.
The year John and Jessie were married, 1893, was the same year as the year the World's Fair was held in Chicago. Andrew McLeish, John's father, suggested that that John and Jesse keep house for John's siblings while Andrew and Katherine went to
the World's Fair. But John and Jesse went on their honeymoon instead so Eliza went to the Andrew McLeish home and helped John's sister, Maggie, who was only 13 and very pretty.
John's father, Andrew, gave him 80 acres of farmland from the homestead in Jefferson Township, Fayette County, Iowa - 2 1/2 miles south of Maynard, Iowa. They farmed here until 1908 at which time John sold his land and moved his family to Texas
where he purchased land. They built a house and a barn but they had no crops. So after a year, they went to Oklahoma and picked cotton. This is where there daughter Kathryn started Kindergarden.
They then came back to Iowa and lived near Strawberry Point and Oran. Sometime after 1915, they moved to a farm one mile north of Louie Barks farm which was 2 1/2 mile north of Maynard, Iowa.
When his wife died in 1934, Andrew moved to Colorado. He died there in Colorado Springs in 1958 at the age of 89. He was buried September 8, 1958 in Oelwein, Iowa.
